Yahoo Mail down reports surged sharply on Monday as users across multiple regions reported problems accessing the email service, according to outage tracking platform Downdetector.
Initial data showed signs of disruption late in the morning, with complaints steadily increasing over the next few hours. Users reported issues ranging from login failures to delays in sending and receiving emails.
Downdetector, which collects real time outage reports from users and network signals, first recorded a spike shortly before noon Pacific Time.
Yahoo Mail down reports climb past 20,000 on Downdetector
At around 11:51 a.m. PT, nearly 5,000 users had flagged issues with Yahoo Mail on Downdetector. The number continued to rise quickly over the following hour.
By 12:09 p.m. PT, reports had jumped to nearly 9,000. Just minutes later, at 12:23 p.m., the total crossed 11,000 user complaints. The surge did not stop there.
At 12:40 p.m. PT, Downdetector data showed more than 16,000 reports tied to Yahoo Mail. By 1:03 p.m. PT, the total number of users reporting problems reached approximately 20,000, signaling a widespread service disruption.
The outage appeared to impact users across different locations, suggesting the issue was not limited to a single region or network provider. Downdetector charts showed a sharp upward curve rather than isolated spikes, which typically indicates a broader platform level problem.
As of the latest update, Yahoo had not released an official statement detailing the cause of the disruption or providing a timeline for resolution. It remains unclear whether the issue was related to server instability, maintenance problems, or another technical failure.
Downdetector data is based on user submitted reports and network monitoring, meaning the actual number of affected users could be significantly higher than reported figures.
Email outages can cause widespread disruption for users who rely on web based mail services for work, account verification, and daily communication. Yahoo Mail remains one of the most widely used email platforms globally, making even short outages noticeable.
Users are typically advised to monitor official service status pages and verified social media accounts for updates during such incidents. At the time of reporting, Downdetector continued to register elevated complaint levels, indicating that the Yahoo Mail down situation had not yet fully stabilized.
